Building Services Engineering is the design, specification, testing and commissioning of all the mechanical, electrical, air conditioning and similar installations that now form such an integral part of every building project.

The Building Services Engineer must be involved at the feasibility stage to initiate design specifications and layouts, undertake cost-in-use and value engineering exercises and co-ordinate plant accommodation within the architect's layouts. During construction he must witness the installation, commissioning and testing of all installations to ensure that they comply with the original brief.
